West Virginia Man Gets Prison Time For Pot Shipment

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A West Virginia man is going to prison in Maryland for shipping himself 60 pounds of marijuana from California.

The Herald-Mail reports that 32-year-old Jeremiah Johnston of Falling Waters, West Virginia, was sentenced to 2 1/2 years Thursday in Washington County Circuit Court in Hagerstown.

The electrician told the judge he learned "it's not that easy" to move marijuana cross-country.

He told police he bought the weed from several suppliers in northern California, consolidated the packages and then had it shipped from Oakland to an address in a Hagerstown business park.

Maryland State Police investigated the suspicious package, tagged it with a tracking device and arrested Johnston after he picked it up.

Johnston says his arrest caused him to lose his security clearance to work at federal facilities.
