Unattended Cooking Is To Blame For Harford Co. Fire

HARFORD COUNTY, Md. (WJZ)—Unattended cooking is to blame after a duplex goes up in flames on Saturday in Harford County.

It happened just before 2:00 p.m. in the 100 block of Kenyon Court in Joppa.

Police say the victim, who was home alone at the time, was preparing to make hush puppies when she left a skillet burning on the stove while she went upstairs.

Minutes later, the victim reports smelling smoke and came downstairs to a heavy fire on the stove, which began spreading to the cabinetry above.

Officials say seven people have been displaced as a result of the blaze. The damage is estimated at $30,000.
