Hagerstown Police To Start Using Body Cameras
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Hagerstown police say they will begin using their first set of body cameras within the next two weeks.
The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown reports that former Hagerstown Police Chief Mark Holtzman on Tuesday informed Mayor David S. Gysberts and the Hagerstown City Council of the department's plan to begin using six body cameras. Holtzman left the post Wednesday to take the police chief's job in Greenville, North Carolina.
Gysberts says he wants to have the department obtain more cameras as funds allow in hopes of getting one for each of the city's approximately 100 officers.
Holtzman says the use of six cameras will ensure there is at least one on the street for every unit that is working. He says lieutenants will be tasked with confirming the credibility of the footage.
