Pope, China Leader Visits Test Obama's Social Secretary

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The diplomatic double whammy of back-to-back visits by Pope Francis and Chinese President Xi Jinping is creating some pressure-filled days for Deesha Dyer.

She's the White House social secretary -- and has been on the job for five months.

It's no wonder that a scented candle is one of the half-dozen "must-have" items she says she keeps in her office.

Dyer has been at the White House since 2009. She was deputy social secretary before her promotion in April.

The Philadelphia native has planned scores of events since then, though none as important politically or as grand as the upcoming visits.

On Wednesday, Francis will become just the third pope to visit the White House. Xi follows two days later on a lavish state visit.
