WEATHER BLOG: Jaoquin Eyeing East Coast

Large and dangerous Hurricane Jaoquin with winds around 130mph continues to cause havoc tonight in the central Bahamas. Storm surges of 5-10 feet have covered many parts of these flat islands with ocean water  tonight. The storm is slow moving as well only around 5 mph to the WSW. A turn back north is expected later tomorrow. From there. the storm is expected to move along the eastern seaboard but stay well offshore as it will begin to pick up speed and slowly weaken as it runs into cooler waters north of the Carolinas. It may be a cat 1 storm well east of the Maryland coast by later monday based on current guidence.  Its important to keep watching our updates all weekend long for path and strength updates. In the meantime more rain is on tap in Maryland , not related to the hurricane. We could see an additional 1 to 3 inches by Saturday. Winds will also increase over the next few days especially along the coasts. A chilly and wet end to the week is in the cards for sure! Bob Turk
