Maryland Jail Corrections Officer Pleads Guilty To Smuggling

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The third of four county corrections officers indicted in a contraband smuggling operation at an Annapolis jail has pleaded guilty.

The Capital Gazette of Annapolis reports that 42-year-old Kenyatta Trotter pleaded guilty Thursday to attempted bribery of a public employee. He is set to be sentenced Nov. 20.

According to his plea agreement, Trotter had discussions with an inmate between January and March, during which he agreed to smuggle drugs, alcohol and tobacco into the jail in exchange for money.

Investigators say Trotter spoke outside of jail with a person he thought was the inmate's friend. The person was actually an undercover police officer.

Two other corrections officers previously pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the investigation. One has yet to go to trial.
