WEATHER BLOG: Tranquil Start

Today is getting off to a relatively tranquil start, although the wind overnight has been light enough to allow for fog to form across central and South Jersey as of this writing... Meanwhile, across the northern Tier of counties in Pennsylvania and in western New York, a few showers have developed since midnight... A warm front is still in the process of pressing to the north and east, and so we'll need to keep a watchful eye on the regional radar mosaic this morning... But, the odds do seem to favor that if there's any shower around eastern Pennsylvania before 11 a.m. or noon, it'll most likely occur in northeastern PA.

The morning hours should provide us with some 'brief glimpses of the sun' today as the wind becomes southwesterly out ahead of the next cold front... This front is due to arrive later this afternoon, and it will bring with it some rain, even a gusty thunderstorm to some places... Not to be "overlooked", the Storm Prediction Center has placed most of the mid-Atlantic region and portions of the Northeast in their "marginal risk" category for thunderstorms that could bring isolated strong and potentially damaging winds. Also, many temperatures will be able to soar into the low 80s this afternoon before the bulk of the rain gets here (probably between 2 and 5 p.m. for most of us).

Tonight, any shower or thunderstorm very early will be followed by partial clearing late, and it'll become noticeably cooler after midnight. All in all, a decent weekend is shaping up for the region as some sunshine returns tomorrow -- while there may be a bit of a breeze, and highs will be mostly in the 60s, it should be a nice day. Sunday and Monday (Columbus Day) should actually be warmer, with most temperatures reaching the 70s once again by early next week...

We'll have to be on the lookout for some rain on Tuesday, but it doesn't look like any 'big storms' will be impacting the Eastern Region for a while...
