Dog Killed By Police After Attacking Owner In Baltimore Park

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- An officer is hurt and a dog is dead after the animal attacks its owner in a city park.

Tracey Leong with how it all unfolded.

Police say the attack happened in the 1300 block of North Patterson Park Avenue, where an officer was forced to take action to save lives.

Police say a dog was attacking its owner inside a basketball court around 6:20 p.m. That's when a child ran up to an officer, screaming for help.

The officer then rushed to contain the dog and protect the owner, but the dog ended up turning its attention to the officer.

"That officer, in turn, tried to escape and tried to create distance away from the dog. Unfortunately, he wasn't successful and the dog attacked him," police said.

Police say the officer was forced to take action, shooting and killing the dog.

Both the officer and owner sustained non-life threatening injuries. They are being treated at a local hospital.
