$7.5M Annapolis City Dock Construction Project Starting

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A $7.5 million project to replace the failing bulkhead on City Dock in Annapolis has begun.

The Capital of Annapolis reports that starting Monday, workers will construct a new bulkhead to prevent worse flooding from occurring along the dock. The bulkhead is a steel wall plunged into the earth. It will have a concrete cap.

Annapolis Harbormaster J.P. "Flip" Walters says the repairs will help stop downtown's slow descent into the bay.

City Director of Public Works David Jarrell says no streets will be closed for the work, which will continue until April.

A first phase of the project shored up the outer portion of the bulkhead, stabilizing Susan Campbell Park. Phase 2, starting Monday, will protect inner City Dock.
