Driver Charged With DUI After 2 Killed In Fatal Bike Crash

CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Md. (WJZ) -- Two people were killed after their tandem bike was struck by an SUV.

According to the Calvert County Sheriff's Office, the crash team responded to the area of Tobacco Rd and Tobacco Lane around 2:57 p.m. Saturday.

A preliminary investigation shows 64-year-old John Henrik Fauerby and 58-year-old Lynne Frances Rosenbusch, both of Clarksburg, Md, were riding a tandem bike northbournd on Tobacco Road when they were struck by a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee from behind.

Sixty-two year old Catherine Frances Lyon, of Huntington, was driving the Jeep.

Both Fauerby and Rosenbusch were ejected from the bike and Rosenbusch was pronounced dead at the scene.

Although Fauerby was transported to a local hospital, he died from his injuries.

The sheriff's office said Lyon was operating the Jeep under the influence of alcohol.

Lyon was arrest and charged with multiple traffic and criminal violations, including driving under the influence, homicide by motor vehicle while under the influence.

She was taken to the Calvert County Detention Center to await a hearing.

The crash is still under investigation.
