Police Still Looking For Man Wanted In Crash That Killed Baby

BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- Outrage grows and the calls for justice get louder in the death of 16-month-old Jermiah Perry .

Right now police are looking for Wayne Green Jr. who walked out of Shock Trauma just days ago before he is charged.

WJZ Investigator Mike Hellgren has the latest.

New video WJZ obtained shows the mayhem after the crash that killed a baby. You can hear the outrage and anger from those who saw it.

Yet, the driver, Wayne Green Jr., who police say caused the chaos, was able to walk out of the hospital just hours after the accident.

That is inexcusable to Lwam Andemariam, who walks her child here every day.

"That's horrifying. That could happen to anybody. It's absolutely ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. We never know what's going to happen next time," said Andemariam.

It's outrageous to Dawn Faircloth, who remembers seeing the innocent victim Jermiah Perry and his mother at the bus stop.

"This should have never happened. That man should have never walked at all," she said.

And Michael Smith, who heard the crash, says Green Jr. should be in custody facing charges.

Green walked out of the hospital on Monday after being treated for his injuries. Police didn't say anything until 2 days later, and now, they are still looking for him.

So many in this community are demanding accountability, yet all they've heard are excuses from police and prosecutors as to why no one could detain or even monitor green at the hospital.

They're not buying that. Even if charges in these complex cases take time to get right--something should not have been done to keep green off the streets.

"How can this happen, why would you let this guy walk away," said Councilman Carl Stokes. "We're not talking about double jeopardy here. We can't let this guy walk away. We cannot do it."

Now, Green, who has a history of drunk driving, even pleading guilty to homicide by motor vehicle remains free--adding even more pain for loved ones of an innocent child who simply want justice.
