Security Heightened After D.C. Deemed A Terror Target

WASHINGTON (WJZ) -- Threats to America from ISIS has required many security changes since the Paris attacks, but how is it affecting people living and working in Washington, D.C.?

Marcus Washington has more on how people are dealing with the changes.

The pain from the tragedy happening in France days ago still rings of the more than 120 lives lost and the many more lives changed forever.

In a recent video released by ISIS, America is deemed a target, with one man shouting, "We swear that we will strike America at its center in Washington."

"They're just terrorizing people. They're just going out to take fear and gain power out of it. There's no reason to have that," said Dalton Weems, Iowa.

For people living in or visiting the nation's capital, there is a noticeable change in security--but many say ISIS' threat will not stop daily life.

"That's not going to change my opinion on how I do things. I'm not going to let them stop what I'm doing," Weems said.

"You've got to keep on moving, keep on living. Can't stop whatever happens. Hopefully, it don't happen. You've got to be on the lookout, be alert," said Dwight Dula, Washington, D.C.

But the question still exists--do ISIS extremists have the capability to act on U.S. soil?

"We're a tougher target because we're more distant. We're a tougher target because our demographics are different. We're a tougher target because we're actually pretty good at this. And we're a tougher target because culturally we've assimilated far better than the French and other Europeans have," said former NSA Director Michael Hayden.
