Georgetown Alumna Hannah Schneider Wins Rhodes Scholarship

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Georgetown University alumna Hanna Schneider has won a Rhodes scholarship to Oxford University, where she will study music and composition.

Twenty three-year-old Schneider, who graduated in 2015, is a violinist and conductor who studied at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory before enrolling at Georgetown. She speaks Russia, Chinese, Italian and Hebrew, and developed a project for Carnegie Hall in which she worked with musicians in the North Caucasus region of Russia.

Schneider is director of special projects for the Mariinsky Foundation of America, and produced two concerts at Carnegie Hall. She also assists Russian conductor Valery Gergiev.

Schneider is one of 36 Americans awarded the Rhodes scholarship for 2016.
