Iraq War Veteran Pleads Guilty In Death Of Adopted 3-year-old Son

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- An Iraq war veteran has pleaded guilty to his role in the death of his 3-year-old son months after he and his wife adopted the boy from South Korea.

Thirty-eight-year-old Brian O'Callaghan of Damascus pleaded guilty Monday to first-degree child abuse resulting in death.

According to charging documents, O'Callaghan took Madoc Hyensu O'Callaghan to a hospital emergency room on Feb. 1, 2014, after finding the toddler unresponsive in his bedroom. Madoc was taken to Children's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Feb. 3, 2014.

The charging documents note that an autopsy showed Madoc died of multiple blunt-impact injuries.

O'Callaghan is a former Marine. He faces a maximum of 40 years in prison at sentencing on April 15.
