Md. Food Bank Launches Campaign To Fight Hunger

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The Maryland Food Bank announced their campaign to combat hunger among Marylanders on Wednesday.

The Save A Seat At Your Table campaign takes note of the 757,000 Maryland citizens that experience food insecurity, and it encourages families to "save a seat" for someone this holiday season or donate to their campaign directly.

"The holidays provide the opportunity to reflect on the things we're grateful for and reach out to those less fortunate—and this year, we are urging individuals to join together to Save A Seat at Your Table for someone struggling with hunger," said Maryland Food Bank President & CEO Deborah Flateman.

"We're hoping to encourage 5,000 new donors to contribute at least one dollar a day to ensure every Marylander has the ability to feed themselves and their families – every day, all year long," Flateman added.

Author and Baltimore resident Wes Moore is serving as a campaign spokesperson along with his wife Dawn and their family.

"Our work with the Maryland Food Bank is teaching us that hunger today looks very different from what most might imagine," said Moore. "Hunger is two parents working multiple jobs to support their children, a single father falling on hard times and needing a hand, or a veteran struggling to get back on their feet."

In order to participate in the campaign directly, visit www.MDFoodBank.org/SaveASeat to become a table host by creating your personalized webpage, set a fundraising goal, invite friends and family to save a seat at your table.
