Student Charged Following Fallston High School Threat

FALLSTON, Md. (WJZ) -- A student's threat against a Harford County high school turns out to be a joke.

It was directed at Fallston High School.

Alex DeMetrick reports, no one found the joke funny.

The message showed up Tuesday on student phones at Fallston High.

According to the Harford County Sheriff's Office, a student threatened to bring weapons to school in a post made on social media.

Investigators quickly found the 15-year-old boy who sent it, at home with his mother.

"It was apparent pretty immediately the threat was not credible," said Major John Simpson, of the sheriff's office. "The student did not have the means to carry out that threat and he felt it was just a joke."

Meaning no guns or explosives were found -- but charges were filed.

"A lot of resources went into action as a result of this joke and the Sheriff's Office charged with the Department of Juvenile Services two charges: terroristic threat and disruption of school activities," Simpson said.

Although the school did not shut down as a result, it did issue a statement saying, "parents received a call today (Tuesday) notifying them that a threat was made to the school; it was investigated by the sheriff's office and deemed non-credible."

This incident was first brought to light by students inside the school.

"Very observant students that know the young man and saw his post and brought it to the teacher's attention," Simpson added.

The 15-year-old has been suspended and remains in his parent's custody, pending a juvenile hearing.
