No Powerball Jackpot Winner; $1.3B For Wednesday's Drawing

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—Lottery officials say there's no winning ticket to Saturday night's $949.8 million jackpot.

The Powerball prize has now broken a world record with a massive $1.3 billion jackpot for Wednesday's drawing.

Amy Yensi has more on the excitement.

A million sounds nice, but a billion with a "B" sounds way better.

A regular ticket costs $2, about the same as a gallon of gas. So two bucks to win more than $1 billion dollars--it sounds like a good investment for many people.

"I'd probably buy a house in a couple states. One in Alaska, California, Florida, Maine," says Dan Fisher.

The odds are slim, at nearly 1 in 300 million, but if you suddenly become a billionaire, experts say you're going to need a few things.

"Start assembling your team. You're going to need a lawyer, an accountant and a financial planner," said, Jill Schlesinger, CBS News business analyst.

The Powerball jackpot has been growing since November after 19 drawings in the multi-state game without a winner.

"This is unchartered territory. We never thought it was going to get to this amount. I don't think anybody has. It's crazy and it could go up again," said Carole Everett, Director of Communications for Maryland Lottery.

Even though no one won Saturday's Powerball jackpot, officials say one ticket worth $1 million was sold on Maryland's Easter Shore.

The next drawing will be held on Wednesday night. Those wishing to buy tickets have until 9:59 p.m. Wednesday to do so.
