Police: Md. Man Attempted To Hit Officers With Car

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (WJZ/AP) -- Howard County police say a man who attempted to strike two police officers with his vehicle has been charged with attempted murder.

Police identified the man in a statement Saturday as 50-year-old Anthony Howard of Ellicott City. Police said they shot at Howard's vehicle when he drove toward them but that no one was injured.

Police say the incident began Friday night when they were called to a residence on Burgess Mill Way. Police say Howard had recently moved from there and had sent threatening text messages to a family member indicating he intended to burn down the house and crash his car into the garage.

Police say they found Howard sitting in his vehicle and that he refused to exit. They said when he accelerated at officers they fired.

The two officers were identified as 10-year veteran Howard County Police Corporal Jeff Kuczynski and 15-year veteran Officer Chad Myers. Both are on routine leave while the investigation continues.
