240 Plows, 13 Tons Of Salt Ready For Blizzard In Annapolis

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ)--The snow has not let up since it started falling around 2:00 p.m. Friday afternoon, accumulating at a rapid speed on the ground at least several inches.

Safety officials in Anne Arundel County says they are ready for whatever this storm may bring.

Tracey Leong has more.

Snow slams Anne Arundel County, adding layers of ice and danger.

"This amount of snow combined with high winds, can make for a deadly combination," said Steve Schuh, Anne Arundel County Executive.

Across the county 240 plows in place with more than 650 people ready to operate and 13, 000 tons of salt readily available for this winter blast.

But with this heavy snowfall safety officials are pushing one message.

"Stay off the roads, every accident, presents the chance for a butterfly effect to take over," says Chief Timothy Altomare, Anne Arundel County Police.

Anne Arundel County has launched their Emergency Operations Center and are ready to jump into action any second. Officials are asking the public to use common sense, and avoid injuries caused by clearing their roofs.

"This is a very dangerous storm and the last thing we want is someone getting injured," said Kevin Aftung, AACo. Director of Emergency Operations.
