Garth Brooks Helping Baltimore's Youth Beyond The Stage

BALTIMORE (WJZ)--Country music superstar Garth Brooks is entertaining thousands of fans during his five show run at Royal Farms Arena, but he's also reaching out to people in Baltimore beyond the stage.

Marcus Washington has more.

He's one of the biggest selling artists in music history, dominating music charts and stages for decades.

And now after 19 years Garth Brooks is back in Baltimore with wife Trisha Yearwood, but he doing more than singing to sold-out crowds.

In each of city on Brooks' world tour he's taking time to mentor kids through his Teammates for Kids Foundation.

"This is where you get to, like you said, put the boots on the ground and get out here. Be with the kids and see their faces and just hopefully teach them something about athletics, but most of all, remind them to love one another. That's what it's all about," said the country singer.

For 10 years the foundation has been offering scholarships to underprivileged kids, helping them attend sports camps hosted by some of the biggest names in professional athletics.

"If they can just learn one thing today that helps them in live somehow or someway, it makes this day worth it," said Brooks.

Kids in Baltimore meet at the Morrell Park Community Center to learn from some pros and meet a country star and others.

"None of these guys know who Garth Brooks is, but they know who Ryan is, they watch him every day. To have him come out and talk to these kids, is priceless," Brooks said.

Teammates for Kids started back in 1999 by Bo Mitchell and Garth Brooks. The organization says they have raised over $100 million to help children in over 60 countries around the globe.
