2 Women Die After Car Hits Snowplow On Western Maryland Road

MCHENRY, Md. (AP) -- Maryland State Police say two Virginia women have died after the car in which they were riding hit a snow plow.

The agency said in a statement that 61-year-old Karen Loker of Harrisonburg, Virginia, and 80-year-old Phyllis Croy of Linville, Virginia, died from injuries they suffered Thursday afternoon in the collision on state Route 42 near McHenry.

Police say Loker and Croy were passengers in a 2008 Hyundai Elantra traveling north on the highway. They say the 66-year-old driver lost control on the snow-and-ice-covered road.

Police say the car traveled into the southbound lane and hit a plow operated by a private contractor.

Police say the car's driver and a third passenger were taken to a hospital in Oakland.
