Dozens Gather To Honor Fallen Harford Co. Deputies

HARFORD COUNTY, Md. (WJZ)--More than 48 hours later the pain is still fresh after two Harford County deputies are gunned down.

Rick Ritter has more on as dozens gathered to honor a pair of heroes.

"When I found out about the incident, I felt like I was punched in the stomach and I have been crying ever since," said Becky Mangano, who used to work with Deputy Dailey.

Deputies Pat Dailey and Mark Logsdon were both killed by 68-year-old David Brian Evans in a shootout Wednesday that started at Panera Bread and ended nearby with the suspect being killed.

"These people have no respect for life, especially for public servants," said Mike Fields, EMS Chief for the Bel Air Fire Company.

Friday night, the cold was an afterthought as dozens gathered for another vigil, including one of Deputy Dailey's young sons who was also a volunteer firefighter.

"He was always there, the man who would do anything for you," said Mangano.

Those who worked with Pat called him a mentor.

"He was the kind of guy who would give you the shirt off his back," said Dale Budnick, Assistant Fire Chief for the Aberdeen Volunteer Fire Dept.

Ron Sollod, who works at the Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company says he's known Pat for 25 years and called him a great guy.

He also echoed sentiments for Deputy Logsdon.

"He was very nice, very friendly, didn't say a bad thing about anyone," said Sollod

Memorials for the two are now on display from one end of the country to the other.

"You've got law enforcement agencies that have called all the way from New York to California," said Dale Budnick.

Down the street Friday night, complete strangers work to organize a rally for both fallen deputies.

"It's very important to give them a proper send off," said Kevin Miksis, who's volunteering his time.

A traumatic ordeal that's not getting any easier.

A rally is planned for both deputies next Sunday the 21st at 2:00 p.m. The location has not yet been set.

Deputy Dailey's funeral will be Monday through Wednesday.

Deputy Logsdon's funeral will be Thursday through Saturday.
