Most Md. Counties Have Gone Over Number Of Planned Snow Days

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Between the blizzard, Monday's snow and Tuesday morning's ice, most central Maryland counties have gone over their planned number of snow days.

Jessica Kartalija has the latest snow day totals.

The day began with delays and quickly changed to cancellations. Now some area schools have gone over their alloted snow days.

Snow, ice and then rain means another school day is gone.

So far, Baltimore City has used seven of the alloted five school days. Howard County has used eight of their six. Anne Arundel has used four of the planned five. Carroll County also planned for five and they have now used six. Baltimore County is also over; they've used eight of the planned seven. Harford County planned for 11 and have used eight so far this season.

State law says students must be in school 180 days a year. That breaks down to 1,080 instruction hours for elementary and middle schools and almost 1,200 hours for high school students.

As of now, most schools will continue through the second week of June.

Schools can ask the state to waive the extra days, but there's no guarantee the state will agree.
