Police Seize 'Dirty Sprite' Worth $100K, Marijuana Known As 'Sour Diesel'

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—A Baltimore Police narcotics investigation has resulted in the seizure of a "Dirty Sprite" prescription cough syrup mixture worth more than $100,000 on the street.

The investigation began on Thursday when detectives conducted a car stop in the 3400 block of Mayfield Ave.

Investigators say they seized five 16 ounce bottles that contained codeine and promethazine prescription cough syrup, a 20 ounce bottle containing a mixture of Sprite and prescription cough syrup, known on the street as Dirty Sprite, 1 ounce of high grade marijuana, known on the street as sour diesel, 15 morphine tablets, and $966.00 U.S. currency.

As a result of that search, detectives seized 16 gallons of a mixture of soda, corn syrup and cough syrup, having a street value of over $100,000.  Detectives seized twenty-five 4 ounce bottles of the mixture of soda, corn syrup, and cough syrup, 2 lbs. of high grade marijuana, narcotic manufacturing material, and a .32 caliber revolver.

Coates was arrested and charged with various narcotic and handgun violations.

The Baltimore Police Department is urging parents to monitor their children's behavior as many parents would not immediately recognize this type of drug activity as illegal.

"These dangerous cocktails provide a "high" for some people and just as we see with more mainstream illegal and illicit drugs, there are people who choose to profit off of it," police said.
