2 Elderly People Shot In Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A shocking crime in Baltimore: two senior citizens got shot Monday while walking down a city street.

Ava-joye Burnett has more on those innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire.

Police released a photo of the suspect late Monday evening.

It's the type of call White House Correspondent April Ryan never imagined she'd get: her elderly aunt and uncle were both shot while they were out running errands.

"She just wanted a sandwich from some place that she thought she was going to get good food from and unfortunately they were both caught in a hail of bullets," Ryan said.

The 90-year-old woman and her 82-year-old brother were both shot in the leg near a shopping center. Police say they were not the targets but they just got caught up in the middle of it.

The victims were both taken to the hospital and they should be okay, but police and residents are still outraged.

"Whoever did it, they really need to be caught because this is not the wild wild west and we shouldn't have to live like that," Barkley said.

And unfortunately, Baltimore is no stranger to this type of violence. In the fall, a nine-year-old in Waverly was shot in the leg by a stray bullet. In 2014, a three-year-old struck by a stray bullet died. Now, almost two years later, her murder has not been solved.

Now police and residents both are angry about yet another senseless crime.

"It's no way in this world that two elderly people should be victims of this type of violence," Smith said.

These women are just grateful their family wasn't ripped apart.

"This is a wonderful city and unfortunately, it's known for this foolishness. There is greatness out of this city but then you see this stuff," Ryan said.

The nieces said their aunt wouldn't rest until she was able to see her 82-year-old brother to make sure he was okay.

Police have not arrested anyone for shooting the siblings. They are asking people to stand up for what's right and let police know if they saw the person who did this. Anyone with information can call Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7-LOCKUP. You can remain anonymous.
