Pope Says Mother Teresa To Be Made A Saint On Sept. 4

VATICAN CITY (AP)—Six months from now Mother Teresa will be made a saint.

On Tuesday, Pope Francis announced she'll be canonized on September 4th.

Mary Bubala has more.

Mother Teresa is known for caring for the poorest of the poor and in 1996 she came to Baltimore and met with an organization that does the very same across the world.

She attended mass at the Baltimore Basilica and visited a hospice where she blessed a medallion for a grandmother of a little boy infected with aids.

She also met with Catholic Relief Services, the international humanitarian organization based in Baltimore.

Sean Callahan, who's now COO for the organization, received a letter from the soon to be saint which reads, "Please pray for us as we do daily for you at Catholic Relief Services, god bless, Mother Teresa, May 30th, 1996."

The letter now hangs on the wall at the CRS for all to see.

"She was just thankful and thanking CRS," said Callahan. "We were one of the first organizations to help her when she started out with just 12 sisters in Kolkata."

Now, more than 4,000 of Mother Teresa's sisters work in 123 countries.

Sean worked side by side with Mother Teresa in Kolkata serving the poor.

"She called me up one time and said Bangladesh is being flooded the sisters need some help can you get some trucks and send some commodities," said Callahan. "I said I can do it, but I can't get them across the border and she said, 'what do I have to do,?'"

Now with two miracles to her name Mother Teresa will be named a saint in September of this year.

Along with those who met her that day in Baltimore, millions across the world already called her a saint on earth because of her lifelong, selfless work caring for the poorest of the poor.

Mother Teresa's first recorded miracle was in 2003 when an Indian woman was cured of a stomach tumor after praying to her.  Her second miracle was recorded in 2008.

Pope Francis also announced four others will be named saints along with Mother Teresa.
