Light City Baltimore Is Underway!

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Charm City is shining bright as the first ever Light City Baltimore festival gets underway! Hundreds have made their way downtown to see the city transformed with world class light displays and sculptures.

Light City Baltimore is the first large-scale international light festival in the country and was dreamed up right here in Baltimore.

Downtown Baltimore is lit up like never before. A lantern parade kicked off America's largest light festival, Light City Baltimore.

The main attraction is at the Inner Harbor. It features a one and a half mile light art walk with massive, illuminated sculptures, street theater and musical performances, giving local artists the opportunity to showcase their talents.

Organizers say the festival is meant to shine a light on ideas, ingenuity and creativity through art, music and innovation.

"We get a chance to rebrand ourselves in the nation's eye. We have people from all across the country; we have people from all across our city and all across central Maryland coming to celebrate with us," said BGE CEO Calvin Butleo.

Five neighborhoods are also participating in the festival.

Light City runs through Sunday; all events are free and open to the public.
