Steve Davis: Perfect Opening Day (Besides The Weather)

Yes, I know, no one was thrilled that Opening Day actually lasted 5.5 hours, and some people are looking to point fingers for not starting the game on-time and the various theories why...but it was a no-win situation. If they started and had to stop it after 45 minutes, the starting pitchers would have been blown and MLB would have been criticized. Mother Nature follows her own lead, so let's move on and talk about the win-situation.

The end was thrilling. Wieters, with one swing, went from goat (failing to come through in 3 prior run scoring opportunities with a couple of strikeouts) to hero by knocking in the game winner. And, yes, I liked the pie. My family even gathered around to see what Jones did to Wieters and they all liked the pie.

Joey Rickard, what a story! Hit in his first major league at bat, then scoring the first run and making a nice play. Trumbo with 4 hits. Tillman striking out 5.  Wilson great in relief with 3 scoreless. Jones with a huge 2 run double.  And, the list could go on. Schoop, Hardy, Davis all doing it with their glove.

It all added up to 6 straight Opening Day wins under Buck.
