Baltimore Police Investigate 26-Year-Old Woman's Murder

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A woman was shot outside of her home, just feet from her fiance, only to die in her mother's arms on the family's kitchen floor. Police are asking for the community's help to catch the murderer.

Marcus Washington spoke with the family of the victim and police about this case.

At just 26, Asia Brockington is the 79th homicide in Baltimore. This is all happening during a time that was supposed to be joyous as she planned the wedding of her dreams. Now the family is planning her funeral and police want your help to find the killer.

"She always liked to clown; she loved to dance," said her grandmother, Marion Henry. "And she just loved her family and her fiance."

At just 26, she is one of the latest homicide victims. She was shot in her backyard on April 26.

That Tuesday night, Asia and her fiance were in the back of the home; she was standing near the door. Her fiance threw something away in the alley; that's why the gunman opened fire. The family believes he fired somewhere around five shots. As Asia turned to run inside through the back door, she was hit in the back and crawled to the kitchen floor.

"She was laying on the kitchen floor. She wasn't moving; she wasn't breathing. Her mother was holding her and she said, `Why?' and all I could do was holler," said Henry. "We can't sleep; we can't eat. She was the love of our life. She didn't bother nobody; didn't get in any trouble. The only thing she wanted to do was have a beautiful wedding. Now we're making funeral arrangements."

It's been nearly a week since she died and no arrests have been made. Police are hoping to change that.

"Detectives feel like they have a person of interest identified. However, we need someone to come forward to help corroborate our story," said Det. Donny Moses.

"Turn yourself in. You think you're getting away with it; you're not getting away with it," Henry said. "Because somebody is going to answer our prayers."

Her funeral is scheduled for Friday at 11 at New David Baptist Church on Milton Avenue. A public viewing will be held on Thursday at James Lincoln Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m.
