Elderly Couple Followed Into Baltimore Home, Robbed At Gunpoint

BALTIMORE (WJZ) – The search for a suspect is on after an 82-year-old man and 70-year-old woman are robbed at gunpoint in their Southeast Baltimore home.

According to investigators, John and Rosalie Sellman were arriving home to the 100 block of Rochester Place around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday after an evening out.

John tells WJZ, "the next thing I know I hear the door slam and this guy is standing just about on top and has a gun to my head and says, 'I'm going to kill you.'"

The couple said a man, described as a 6-foot-tall, heavy-set black male in his early 20's, pushed them to the floor and demanded property and money.

John says the gunman kept yelling, "I'm going to kill your wife".

The victims complied and gave the man cash, a cell phone and a wallet.

Rosalie says, "I just gave him the money and he said, 'this isn't enough' and I said, 'that all there is.'"

When the man left, police say he fled the scene on a bicycle. He was reportedly wearing a navy blue sweatshirt and dark pants.

Authorities tell WJZ they won't rest until they get their man.

"We're going to put every effort we can into capturing them and we hope the community is just as outraged because it is different when we're talking about vulnerable victim," said Baltimore Police spokesman T.J. Smith.

"Were asking for all neighbors to keep an eye out if they see anyone that looks out of place to call it in," says Jermey Tippett, who lives nearby.

Before the suspect got away Rosalie says she took out her cane and beat the man in an attempt to protect her husband.

Neither of the victims were injured in the incident.

Detectives don 't believe this incident is related to the Northwest home invasion where a 90-year-old woman was assaulted earlier Wednesday.

The Sellmans say they are thankful they escaped with their lives.

"I just never thought I'd ever experience something like this," said John.

District Detective Units are investigating this robbery and are asking anyone with information to call 410-396-2422 or call Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.
