Md. Woman Pleads Not Guilty To Illegal Silicone Injections

WINDSOR MILL, Md. (WJZ) -- A Maryland woman -- charged with promising clients their dream bodies -- but prosecutors say what she was really injecting was a serious risk to their health.

Meghan McCorkell was in court as the woman faced a federal judge.

Investigators say for 15 years Kendra Westmoreland injected industrial silicone into clients, making hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Kendra Westmoreland, 54, left the federal courthouse Friday after pleading not guilty to charges she illegally injected industrial silicone into more than 100 clients.

"She had set up a little practice in her home, where patients would come, and she allegedly told the patients that this was approved for medical purposes when, in fact, it wasn't," said Rod Rosenstein, U.S. Attorney.

Court documents obtained by WJZ say Westmoreland told clients she used medical-grade silicone for body contouring, but investigators say what she was using isn't FDA approved and is often used in shampoos and home improvement items.

Prosecutors say she recently had 400 pounds of silicone shipped from China.

"You buy something on the Internet from China, odds are, you're not getting a product that's safe for human use," said Rosenstein.

Westmoreland allegedly used the website Urban Glam Girls to attract clients.

Prosecutors say they've been seeing more and more cases just like this one.

In 2012, Kimberly Smedley was sentenced to three years in prison for injecting women with commercial-grade silicone.

Kelly Mayhew, 34, of Prince George's County died when she traveled to New York to get illegal silicone injections from an unlicensed doctor.

"It's become a problem all over the country," said Rosenstein.

Kendra Westmoreland now faces up to three years behind bars and a $250,000 fine.

Investigators believe Westmoreland also traveled to Miami to give injections as well.

Investigators say they found at least 120 people listed as clients in Westmoreland's cell phone.
