Police: Road Rage Suspect Opens Fire On Driver In Howard Co.

HOWARD COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) -- A terrifying case of road rage in Howard County. A man opened fire on another driver during the start of morning rush hour. Now police across the county are searching for that gunman.

Meghan McCorkell has the latest on the hunt.

Police are searching for the driver who fired a bullet into another car while driving down the road.

Calls for help went out early Monday morning.

"A number one man with facial hair and tattoos shot at a subject's vehicle, left a bullet hole," said one call.

Investigators say it was along Old Annapolis Road near Phelps Luck Drive around 6:30 a.m. A man noticed another car behind him driving erratically. The other driver pulled up alongside him, pulled out a handgun and fired a shot into his driver's side door, then took off.

"That's shocking in this area. Usually, it's a pretty safe neighborhood," said Deepa Srinivasan.

Now police are hunting for the gunman, who was driving a black Chrysler 300.

"He described the suspect as a black male with a shaved head and facial tattoos with a muscular build," said Lori Boone, Howard County police.

The incident happened just one block from Howard High School; the gunman was seen fleeing in that direction.

"It was last seen driving away from Howard High School through Centre Park Drive, unknown tags," said Boone.

The crime has other drivers on alert.

"It's all the time. I mean, what do you do?" said one driver.

"I just watch out," said another. "Keep my eyes open."

Now police are looking for any witnesses or surveillance footage in the area as they try and hunt down the man who opened fire on another driver.

"A road rage incident like this is pretty serious," Boone said.

Fortunately, no one was injured in Monday's incident. The bullet hit the door of the car.

Anyone with information on the car or suspect is asked to call Howard County police.
