Church Community Outraged After Pastor Is Gunned Down In Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—A community continues to mourn the loss of an associate pastor gunned down on Friday morning.

It was around 7:30 a.m. in the 2900 block of Rosalind Avenue when 41-year-old Latrina Ashburne was approached by a man while she was getting out of her car.

Police say Ashburne was later gunned down when she tried to run from the suspect.

Police are hoping new images will help bring this killer behind bars.

Ashburne, was a teacher's aide at Francis Scott Key Elementary and an associate pastor at Kingdom Restoration church located in the 5200 block of York Road.

Different churches worship at this York Road location, but on Sunday there's was a collective sense of grief that one of their church sisters was murdered.

"It's hard, it's hard, because for someone to just take a life, and someone in the community, a law abiding upstanding citizen in the community, we just don't understand why," said Pastor Christian Hall, Kingdom Restoration Center.

The police commissioner even showed up before Sunday services to give an update on the investigation.

"This is a woman that you want as your neighbor, this is the woman that you want in your community and some coward guns her down at 7:30 in the morning," TJ Smith said during a news conference on Friday.

As investigators try to close in on a suspect, the pastor at Ashburne's church--who's also her uncle--is trying to move forward in the midst of tragedy.

"Right now, I have to move past the hurt, I have to move past the bitterness because it's really at this point about finding the person, getting justice served and moving on with our lives," said Hall.

Police are still trying to figure out why someone would murder a woman who was so well respected. They want to hear from you if you know something.
