2 Dogs Found Shot To Death, Left In Trash Can In Abingdon

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- After two dogs were found dead in a trash can in Abingdon, the Harford County Sheriff's Office is investigating.

George Solis has more.

The family was already mourning the loss of a loved one. They went away for a few days only to come home to tragedy.

Video and photos of her two pups are now the only reminder left of Jessica Oliver's furry family members.

"Monday night is when we found both of the dogs on the side of the road in trash bags," Oliver said.

Oliver tells WJZ on Memorial Day weekend the family took a trip down to Ocean City, a much-needed getaway following the death of her husband.

"Blaze, my three month old pit bull, was actually something that we had gotten my children to help cope with the death of their father," Oliver said.

A close friend watched over the family home off Autumn Harvest Court in Abingdon. Also being watched were six-year-old Chloe (a Jack Russell terrier) and Blaze. Oliver says at some point, the dogs accidentally got out and a frantic community-wide search yielded nothing.

"It was dark. She's never gotten out in the dark so I think they just got a little too far away to where they couldn't make their way back home," Oliver said.

An extensive search led the family two miles from their home into this wooded area off Winters Run Road. The two dogs were found on the side of the road in garbage bags; their collars had been removed.

"Somebody knew exactly what they were doing," said Oliver.

The Harford County Sheriff's office is investigating the shooting.

In the meantime, the family is left playing guessing games as to why someone could be so cruel.

"Monster. Absolute monster. I mean, my dogs aren't aggressive. They wouldn't have hurt anyone," Oliver said.

Oliver fears her pups may have wandered off onto someone's property and were shot as a result. She's hopeful someone comes forward to do the right thing.

The Humane Society of Harford County says it's horrified by the case and are hopeful an arrest will be made soon.
