WEATHER BLOG: Threat For Showers

It was a beautiful end to the week across the area with plenty of sunshine and highs into the 80s. To begin the weekend, as has been the trend over the past several weekends, is the threat for showers and thunderstorms. A warm front associated with a storm across Hudson Bay will push northeast across the region today and send temperatures well into the 90s. By late this afternoon and early evening, the warm and humid air mass will fire stronger thunderstorms across Pennsylvania and push southward during the day. Current thinking is that the strongest storms will remain to the north of the city, but any stronger thunderstorm that arrives could produce a strong wind gust and perhaps some small hail. Best timing for storms appears to be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The passage of the cold front during Saturday night will drastically lower the humidity levels from the 60s to the 40s and also lower temperatures slightly for Sunday. It will be dry and sunny, but windy. Winds could gust to 35 mph at times during the afternoon.
