Funeral Held For 3rd Grader Killed By Driver Fleeing Police

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Family and friends bid a final farewell to the nine-year-old Baltimore girl who was killed walking home from school. Amirah Kinlaw was hit by the driver of a stolen car, who was only 14-years-old.

Loved ones gathered at Grace Bible Baptist Church to remember the little girl's short, but love-filled life.

"Quiet, polite. I mean, she was the most beautiful child to be around," one man said.

The funeral for Amirah was not a sad day, but a day to celebrate the nine years loved ones shared with her.

Amirah's death came June 16, as she walked home from school. She never made it beyond the front of Steuart Hill Academic Academy.

The third grader was hit and killed by a stolen SUV, driven by a 14-year-old. Her father has forgiven the young boy days later.

"And I do forgive him because it's not my fight... It's between God and Amirah," said Leon Carter, Amirah's father.

As her mother and father said their last goodbye, her loved ones remembered her smile, her love of music and her faith.

"I think it was one of the last things she ever posted on Facebook, and it says, it's just beautiful, she said, 'Let's see who isn't afraid to share this post.' And it was, 'I support Jesus Christ and love God,'" said Tom Homans, Christian Community Center.

She was a daughter, a sister and a friend who will forever be remembered for the impact her short life had on so many.

The family of Amirah has set up a GoFundMe page to pay for the expected $10,000 funeral. They have raised just over $9,000.

The 14-year-old driver of the SUV that hit Amirah is facing charges as a juvenile.
