5 Orioles That Resemble Characters On HBO's Game Of Thrones
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Winter is coming -- eventually. For now, the Orioles find themselves heating up in the middle of summer. But with HBO's Game of Thrones coming to an end after another spectacular season, here's a look at a few players who remind us of our favorite GOT characters:
Buck Showalter/Ned Stark: He's the Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North. Ned Stark was only on the show for a short time, but his personality and overall leadership has sent ripples throughout Westeros. The same can be said for Orioles Manager Buck Showalter. He's only been with Baltimore for a few years, but his presence has completely changed the culture of the ball club. They're now a winning organization and the team has rallied behind their leader. Here's hoping Buck keeps his head on a swivel so that the Orioles remain in their winning ways for years to come.
Manny Machado/Jon Snow: You know nothing Manny Machado -- or something like that. Part of what makes Game of Thrones such a captivating series is the large number of heroes that can make genuine impacts across the Seven Kingdoms. Jon Snow has slowly become the hero among heroes. Jon Snow is young, brave, and at times a bit overzealous, and 23-year-old Manny Machado's résumé looks eerily similar to the Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. He's become a hero in the locker room with clutch hitting at very opportune moments in any given ballgame. He's widely considered to be one of the best hitters in the MLB and sometimes he does allow his passion to get the best of him.
Adam Jones/Robb Stark: When Ned Stark is not around, his eldest son assumes the responsibility as Lord of Winterfell. The same thing can be said for Adam Jones. When Buck Showalter isn't around, it is expected that Adam takes responsibility as leader of the clubhouse, an honor that neither Robb nor Jones take for granted. Adam Jones' leadership qualities have resonated throughout the team and helps Baltimore deal with the rigors of an extremely long MLB season. Not as long as the wait between Game of Thrones seasons, but long all the same.
Chris Davis/The Hound: Sandor Clegane, otherwise known as The Hound, isn't the most heroic of characters, but he's good at what he does -- really good. His particular set of skills are invaluable in a place such as Westeros. Chris Davis is also really good at what he does. Nobody makes hitting home runs look quite as easy as Chris Davis. Similar to The Hound, Davis' strength is his bread and butter, especially when hitting a Grand Salami. He uses it to his advantage to make the opposition pay. At times, I'm sure Clegane can literally see the terror in the eyes of his opponents. Davis likely has similar moments when he's up against opposing pitchers.
Mark Trumbo/Daario Naharis: The quest for the Iron Throne is not an easy venture. When Daenerys Targaryen found herself in need of warriors to help in her quest for the throne, she sought the services of the Second Sons. Daario Naharis was the best swordsman in the group and eventually pledged his allegiance to the Breaker of Chains and Mother of Dragons. Similarly, the Orioles were also in need of help in their quest for a title. Baltimore traded Steve Clevenger for C.J. Riefenhauser and Mark Trumbo and couldn't be happier with the transaction. Both Trumbo and Naharis have become invaluable weapons for their respective factions. Without Daario, Daenerys may still be held captive by the Dothraki, and were it not for Trumbo, the Orioles offense wouldn't be nearly as potent as they have been in 2016.
