Homicide Investigation After Elderly Man Found Dead In Burning Home
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A canvass is underway in Northeast Baltimore after an 83-year-old man, identified as Charles Ervin, was found dead following a house fire in the 3300 block of the Alameda Monday night. Detectives are investigating the death as a homicide.
According to the Baltimore Police Department, the fire appears to have been deliberately set and detectives "observed visible trauma to the victim's body."
When first responders arrived, they found a two story single family home with light smoke showing from a rear window on the second floor, fire spokesman Samuel Johnson says.
They entered the home with a ladder extended to the window and found the man.
Homicide detectives and arson investigators were summoned to the scene shortly before 8:30 p.m. and assumed control of the investigation.
