Second Baltimore 'Water Wheel,' This One For Canton, Is 99% Funded
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A second Baltimore Water Wheel, a little brother or sister for the one that has been helping clean up the Inner Harbor for the past two years, is nearly fully funded.
Since the original, Mr. Trash Wheel, launched in May 2014, it's collected more than 420 tons of trash and debris while running on water current and solar power.
Whereas Mr. Trash Wheel sits near where the Jones Falls empties into the harbor, the yet-to-be-named wheel would be in Canton, at the end of Harris Creek.
About $538,000 of the $550,000 needed for the project has been raised.
One of the Waterfront Partnership's goals with the wheels and its other initiatives is to make the harbor swimmable and fishable by 2020.
