Dave Johnson: Gausman Has Pitched Well Enough To Win

Former Oriole and current MASN analyst Dave Johnson joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to talk Kevin Gausman's road woes, Dylan Bundy's dominance and the O's scuffling offense.

Kevin Gausman pitched well last night against the Oakland Athletics going six innings giving up just two runs, but again the O's offense couldn't muster up enough offense to help him out. Gausman hasn't won a road start since August of 2014. Johnson thinks it's just a coincidence. "He's pitched well enough to win most games…Whether mentally he can handle this, I think so. He's a college pitcher; he's been through some ups and downs. I think if people just wouldn't bring it up it wouldn't be that big of deal."

In Dylan Bundy's last four starts, he has pitched to a 1.90 ERA over 23.2/3 innings. Johnson talked about what has been the difference for Bundy. "For whatever reason, there's a little bit more there to the fastball. Even if it's not the higher velocities, guys just aren't picking it up. That bodes well because he's been the best starter over the last four or five times through the rotation."

The Orioles have scored over five runs in just two of their 24 games since the all-star break. Johnson believes it's a matter of time before the offense breaks out. "I really think this thing is going to click at some point here because there's just too many guys in this lineup with track records for them to slump for the next month. I just can't see that happening."
