Troopers: 1 Killed, 4 Injured in I-95 Crash in Howard County
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A head-on crash involving a van and two other vehicles on Interstate 95 in Howard County left a man dead and four others injured on Friday afternoon, authorities said.
A Chevy van driven by an unidentified man was heading south on I-95 near the Laurel rest area north of Route 216 before 1 p.m. when it veered across the median and into oncoming northbound traffic, according to the Maryland State Police.
The van struck a Hyundai Sonata driven by Grace Hansen, 54, of Rockville, head-on and then collided with a tractor trailer driven by Thomas Dombroski, 55, of Williamstown, N.J., troopers said.
The van's driver was pronounced dead en route to the hospital. His passenger was airlifted to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center where, at last check, his condition was not known.
Dombroski, Hansen and her passenger, 20-year-old Jasmin Hansen, were rushed to Howard County General Hospital for treatment, troopers said.
The crash, which shut down some lanes of I-95 for more than an hour, remains under investigation.
