BALTIMORE (WJZ)–The University of Maryland College Park Police have given the all clear after reports of a man armed with an AR-15 style weapon prompted emergency alerts on Thursday.

The initial alert sent out to the university staff and students stated the incident was reported near the Ritchie Colliseum.

Further investigation revealed that the person was an off duty member of the militarily and there was no harm to students.

Chief Mitchell has called an emergency with military commanders to discuss this incident and make sure this can never happen again,” said university police in an email.

Walking down the street with an assault rifle is not a crime, so why all the precautions??? The Constitution gives all the wackos the right to bear arms and it could just have been a law abiding NRA member out squirrel hunting, you know, trying to keep his family fed. Since they were stupid enough to allow anyone with mental or substance abuse problems an assault rifle, get used to seeing them paraded around under the 2nd mistake…I mean amendment and take the NRA’s word that assault rifles are perfectly safe and assure your kids that people do not burst into classrooms, malls, movies and the like to gun down innocent people with them…..oh wait!
