Police Investigating "Apparent Murder" In a State Prison

BALTIMORE, Md. (WJZ)-- Maryland State Police are investigating what they say seems to be an apparent murder of an inmate Monday night in a Washington County state prison.

The victim was identified as Benjamin Hall, 26, an inmate at the Maryland Correctional Institute Hagerstown.

Around 11 p.m. Monday night, the Homicide Unit were informed of the inmate lying on the floor of his cell unresponsive. A preliminary investigation indicates around 10:30 p.m., Hall may have been involved in an altercation with another inmate inside his cell.

When found, Hall did not respond to the immediate medical treatment and was pronounced deceased.

A suspect has been developed during the investigation, but he has not been charged and will not be identified until that occurs.  The suspect is an inmate at the same institution.

Hall was serving a 7-year-sentence for theft, according to Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) officials.
