Woman Charged With Assaulting Maryland Deputy During Arrest

POINT OF ROCKS, Md. (AP) — The Frederick County Sheriff's Office says a woman who was driving drunk with a child in her car assaulted deputies during her arrest.

Sgt. Amanda Ensor said in a statement Wednesday that 26-year-old Lauren Moats fought with deputies and tried to spit on them Monday at her home in Point of Rocks.

Ensor says deputies had been sent there to investigate reports that no one had been meeting a school bus dropping off a 5-year-old who lived at the home.

Ensor says that while deputies were there, Moats arrived with a small child in the back seat of her SUV.

She's charged with three counts of second-degree assault and drunken-driving offenses.

No defense attorney is listed in online court records. A call to the home address was not immediately returned.
