Serious Injuries After 2-Car Crash In New Carrollton

NEW CARROLLTON, Md. (WJZ) -- A 20-year-old woman is in serious condition following a two-car collision that happened early Thursday morning in Prince George's County.

The crash happened at 3:30 a.m. Thursday on the inner loop of the Washington beltway I-495 at Route 450 in New Carrollton.

The two cars collided when one car, a silver Jeep Liberty, changed lanes and struck a Kia Sportage.  The silver Jeep Liberty lost control after impact and struck an embankment twice causing the passenger to be ejected.

The passenger of the Jeep, 20-year-old Ashley Robinson, sustained serious injuries, while driver 34-year-old Terrance Johnson, sustained minor injuries.

Johnson sustained minor injuries and Robinson sustained serious injuries. Both were taken to a local hospital by ambulance. The driver of the Kia, 49-year-old Shelia Lane did not require any medical attention at the scene.

Police say the collision caused two lanes of I-495 to be shut down for several hours. All lanes are opened at this time.

The collision is still under investigation.
