SCAM ALERT: Police Investigating 'Exit Ramp Scam' In At Least 6 Md. Counties

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—Maryland State Police continue to warn motorists about a panhandling scam reported in at least six Maryland counties.

Police say the suspects are pretending their vehicles are disabled, flag down motorists on exit ramps and ask for money. In exchange for the money, the scam artists then give fake jewelry in return.

"These incidents are causing major traffic delays and in some instances, crashes on the ramps," police said.

The incidents have been reported to the Maryland State Police in Prince George's County, Montgomery County, Harford County, Howard County, Anne Arundel County and Allegany County, Maryland.

Police say they have arrested two suspects over the weekend for their involvement in the scam.

Aron Miclescu, 29 and Constantin Stan, both from Baltimore, Md, have been charged with criminal disorderly conduct, reckless endangerment, disturbing the peace by obstructing traffic, walking on highway, parking vehicle on highway shoulder.

State Police believe similar scams may be occurring in other counties.
