Mom, Daughter Charged With Running 6-State Shoplifting Ring, Including Md. & Pa.

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a New Jersey mother and her daughter have been indicted on charges that they ran a shoplifting ring that stole expensive cosmetics and returned the stolen goods to department stores spanning six states.

Attorney General Christopher Porrino said Thursday that 47-year-old Caroline Britt and her 23-year-old daughter Breanna, both of Irvington, have been charged with leading an organized retail theft enterprise and shoplifting, among other charges.

Authorities say they stole cosmetics from Ulta stores from 2011 through 2013. They say other associates then returned the stolen goods to J.C. Penney stores for store credit, which was later converted into cash.

Authorities say they made off with about $107,000 from stores in New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland.

It's not known if they have lawyers.
