Dog Dies After Owner Says He Was Shot With A Crossbow

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A family pet brutally murdered. The dog found on the front porch, with a crossbow arrow through its neck. The sheriff's department in Washington County needs help to find who did it.

A family is devastated after helplessly watching their beloved dog die right on their own front porch. Mom Jennifer Collier adopted German Shepard-Beagle mix Bronx as a therapy dog for her eight-year-old son last year.

"They spent all their time together. He actually slept in bed with my son. They were pretty much inseparable," she said

Early Friday morning, the dog's life came to a horrifying end. A family member had let Bronx out in the front yard, like usual, but when she went back to the door to get him, she found him standing at the door with an arrow through his neck.

Investigators believe someone shot the family pet with a crossbow. His injuries so severe, he never even made it to the vet.

Now the Collier family wants to know who is responsible.

"Everybody thinks its pretty sick, and I hope somebody can help me find the person that did this to the dog," said Jennifer Collier.

The sheriff's department is now asking for the public's help for any information that could lead to who shot this dog.

"It's a horrible way for an animal to die. It obviously is very cruel and we need to find justice for Bronx," said Washington County DFC Carly Hose.

The fact that someone fired a weapon at her front porch has Collier shaken.

"I'm kind of afraid to leave my child outside in the yard. If you could do this to my dog on my front porch. What about my child outside?" said Collier.

And she's left to explain to her son why his best friend is now buried in the back yard. Deputies haven't had many leads in the case. And are hoping someone provides clues.

The dog was a three years old and was adopted from the Humane Society.
