Police Search For Suspect Involved in I-495 Shooting

(GLENARDEN, MD) - Maryland State Police are searching for a male suspect in a minivan, who reportedly fired a shot at another vehicle as that car attempted to merge onto the Capital Beltway in Prince George's County early Friday.

The victim driver is a 21-year-old female from Virginia. She was not struck or injured in any way during the incident.

The suspect is described as a thin African American male, with short dreads, who was wearing a white t-shirt, driving a blue minivan.

Investigators say at about 12:15 a.m. today, the victim was driving westbound on Rt. 50, prior to I-495. As she was attempting to enter the outer loop of I-495 from Rt. 50, she was merging onto the exit ramp that was occupied by the blue minivan. The victim reported she both increased and decreased her speed in an effort to merge safely, either in front of, or behind the van. She said the minivan driver deliberately increased and decreased his speed as she did, to prohibit her from entering the lane.

The victim said she then saw the driver point a handgun toward the passenger side of her car and fire one time. She was able to maneuver away from the van and enter the outer loop of I-495. She exited at Rt. 450 and called 911. The blue minivan was last seen westbound on Rt. 50.

Troopers from the College Park Barrack responded and met the victim in a parking lot near the exit. An examination of the victim's car revealed an indentation on the passenger side door consistent with a small caliber handgun.

Anyone who witnessed this shooting or who has information about the suspect is urged to contact the Maryland State Police at the College Park Barrack, at 301-345-3101. Callers may remain anonymous.
