Baltimore College Student Beaten to Death In Toronto

TORONTO (WJZ/AP) — Police are looking for two suspects after a 26-year-old Baltimore college student was beaten to death in Toronto over the weekend.

26-year-old University of Baltimore student Julian Jones is remembered as kindhearted and easygoing and the campus is reeling from his murder, which remains unsolved.

Jones traveled from Baltimore to Toronto, Canada for a bachelor party over the weekend.

Investigators say the incident started early Saturday morning when Julian Jones and a group of friends from the United States were at a bar to celebrate a friend's upcoming wedding.

When they left, they were approached by another group of men, and Det. Rob North said Sunday that's when an unprovoked fight started.

Julian's father lives in Glen Burnie. He was close to his son.

"I'm going to do everything to get these people brought to justice for killing him and find the energy and time to keep talking to you all," said Tobias Jones, Julian's father.

"That something like this could happen is awful and tragic," said University of Baltimore student Kristin Shields.

North says Jones was "punched and repeatedly kicked about the head," and a group of seven to nine men then fled the scene. Jones died en route to hospital.

North says police have video and will be releasing images of the two suspects in the coming days.

They're also encouraging anyone who was with the group of men to talk to investigators.

"Not only do I want the two individuals who are responsible for the assault and murder of Mr. Jones to turn themselves in," North said. "I want the six to eight other males who were involved with them, who may not have participated in the assault and murder to come forward and do the right thing."

The first suspect is described as white, 26 to 27 years of age. He has short black hair, a slim build and was wearing a black top and black pants.

The second one is described as black, 26 to 27 years of age. He is described as being built like a football player, has a full beard and was wearing a black fitted top and black skinny jeans.

According to the University of Baltimore, Jones was an undergraduate student majoring in the Environmental Sustainability and Human Ecology program. He had transferred to UB from Anne Arundel Community College in fall 2014, and was on track to graduate in spring 2017.

Jones was supposed to marry his fiance next spring.
